Mengapa Gelombang Laut Tak Menyebabkan Banjir?

Gelombang laut (Ombak) bergerak menuju pantai, satu gelombang lainya, siang dan malam terus-menerus. Mengapa daerah pantai tiduk banjir? Seperti yang kita tahu kalau medium tidak ikut merambat bersama gelombang. Karena itulah gelombang laut secara tidak nyatatidak membawa air laut (Sebagai medium) untuk merambat bersamanya. Selama gelombang laut merambat ke pantai, air laut hanya bergerak naik-turun dan tidak bergerak maju. Oleh karena itu, walau tampak seolah-olah air laut itu sendiri yang bergerak maju ke pantai, tetapi sesungguhnya tidak. air laut itu hanya bergerak naik-turun, sehingga air laut tidak menyebabkan banjir pada daerah pantai. Mengapa kadang-kadang kertas atau plastik terbawa oleh gelombang laut (ombak) ke tepi pantai? Gerak mendatar kertas atau plastik di sini tidak disebabkan oleh gelombang laut, tetapi oleh tiupan angin yang memberi resultan gaya pada kertas yag berarah mendatar ke tepi pantai.
